Name: Atticus Caius Velus
Age: 32
Personality:
Atticus is a very loving, caring, and loyal person to anyone that is close to him. His friends and family do always come before all else and he has a an ever growing desire to help even people that he has never met. He is very selfless and makes sure that others happiness and well being comes before his own. He is flirty to basically everyone, but he has no desire to settle down and commit long term. The only two people he has ever loved didn't work out so he is done trying that.
He is a good leader and he likes to be in control of things. He enjoys the power and he does well with it. He doesn't take advantage of it and he doesn't crack under pressure. He is good at being calm and thinking through plans and situations and re-designing things when he needs to. His creativity gets him far and in his spare time he finds drawing with his little girl very relaxing. He does know he is good at things and he does make a point to let everyone else know. He is also incredibly competitive by nature and pretty much turns anything he can into a competition.
History:
Atticus was born to typical party hard capitol parents, left with his granny most of his childhood since she had given up the party lifestyle a few years ago. His parents were around occasionally, but when they were they were either drunk/high, coming down from the party before, or they were cranky because of withdrawals. They were most pleasant to be around when they had something in their system, so Atticus preferred to spend his time with them when they were like that. He would join them for some parties, socializing very contently with the other kids. A little social butterfly he was.
In school he was one of the "popular" kids. He was good at both sports and the arts. He was good at talking to people and getting people to like him. He was good at being the leader of the pack and he liked to have followers or "fans" as he called some of them. He liked the feeling of being chased after by the ladies. He enjoyed "being amazing at everything" as he claimed to be. He wasn't perfect, but he acted as if he was. He had many friends, but only one best friend. Only one person he would always go back to no matter what and that person was Seneca Crane.
Atticus and Seneca were the same age and therefore they were in all the same classes from the beginning and they shared a love for the creative arts. They became friends that first day in art class and became pretty much inseparable. Atticus knew that Seneca was the one who would always be there for him and he made a point to make sure that Seneca was aware that he would be with him through it all. They shared an interest, they loved to compete with each other, they trusted one another, and they just enjoyed each others company. Even as Atticus grew and spent more time going out and enjoying the capitol life he knew he could always come back to Seneca for the simple things that people in the Capitol seemed to take for granted.
He was there when Seneca's father left and Seneca was there when his granny died. He even became close to Seneca's avox, Cade, over the years and grew to love the man close to the same way that Seneca did. He treated him well and with respect, something that most capitolites would never do for an avox. Atticus was there when Lucius was born and he was more than happy to lend a hand with the little fella, just as Seneca did when Aurelia was born four years later. They were supportive of each other and like one big family.
His feelings for Seneca became confusing as he grew into a teenager. His feelings for his peers in general did as they would for anyone, but his were slightly more confusing. The "normal" feelings, as his parents called them during the interesting talk he was given, about girls made sense, but what about the fact that he was seeing his best friend in an entirely different light? He had always loved him, but he had never felt like he was in love with him until that time. He was crushing on him and he was crushing on him hard. There were dreams that complicated things even further. One day he decided that enough was enough. He couldn't deal with keeping it to himself anymore and he decided to tell Seneca everything. Keeping it a secret would be more difficult then dealing with however Seneca reacted.
Seneca had been shocked by the news it seemed and it took a while for him to speak. At least when he finally did speak it was only to tell Atticus that it was okay, but that he had a girlfriend and wasn't interested in him like that. Things were awkward and uncomfortable for a couple of days, but it soon enough faded away and things got back to normal. Atticus hid the feelings by spending time with other people. A lot of other people really, but they were never enough to completely get rid of his deeper feelings for Seneca Crane.
It was when Aurelia was born and handed over to Atticus that Seneca seemed to realize, in his words, "how stupid he had been to wait so long" to tell Atti that he had stronger feelings for him too. The two were inseparable, or nearly, after that. It wasn't until an old fling, a mentor from district 8, came to Atticus asking him to help the female tribute from eight this year. She was the mentor's daughter and he wanted to make sure his little girl got home safe. Atticus couldn't not feel awful about the situation, so of course he went to Seneca about the situation, since he had just been made head gamemaker that same year.
The district eight girl didn't make it and it was one of Atti's traps that had killed her. It was his fault and he had never felt so sick and guilty over the games before. He didn't want to do it anymore. He couldn't do it anymore. It was even worse when he found the angry father waiting outside for him that night when he went to leave. He never touched Atti, but he sure as hell managed to hurt him with everything that he said. Cade was still up when Atticus came home in tears. Tears that weren't in anyway normal for the young man. After explaining to him everything that had happened and everything that was going on in his mind Cade mentioned the rebels. A group he was part of. It opened many new doors for Atticus and after a long talk with Seneca it was decided that he would take Aurelia and head to district thirteen when Cade got something set up for them to go.
He settled into thirteen with his little girl very quickly, becoming Battle Captain after showing off his skills. He is happy with where he is now and with what he is doing. He knows he made the right decision, even if it meant losing both of the people he truly ever loved. Thanks to Vinny, he is able to keep in contact with Seneca, even if it isn't nearly as much as he would like. Seneca's yearly visit to district thirteen had been wonderful as well, but he is hoping that they can be together, really together, again soon.
